“The simplest reason Facebook and Twitter are not on this year’s Most Innovative Companies list: Neither produced innovations worth celebrating”

There’s nothing wrong in creating shareholder value, these companies are now public. With all the external pressures such a situation creates. That said, Apple has been public for a long, long time and has consistently dazzled the consumer with creative innovation. Facebook and Twitter (and others) need strong leadership to keep the short-term focus of shareholders at bay or they risk the same challenges that plague Yahoo.
